COLONY FIELD MANUAL / 0.3.2

Completing the campaign: the Ethereal Steam Veil

Finish the active research tree, build the final megaproject and prepare reserves to suppress new invasions.

Technology tree

The current campaign’s grand objective is to build the Ethereal Steam Veil after completing every active technology. Completion is recorded when the structure is installed, while the Steam Core is alive and the colony has not been defeated. You can keep playing the save after victory.

Prepare the megaproject

  1. Complete the active branches of the research tree. Check each technology and its prerequisites; finishing only energy or defense is insufficient.
  2. Organize production of the materials listed in the Veil recipe. Use its entry to inspect current costs and calculate the batches needed.
  3. Open Steam Core crafting, manufacture the Veil and reserve 1 × 4 × 1 blocks, in width × height × depth.
  4. Install it. The campaign records the milestone and presents completion with your play time.

The Veil is unique. If crafting is refused, look for one already placed, in an inventory or in the trash slot. You do not need copies to cover different parts of the colony.

Building it and keeping it active are separate steps

The Veil is installed switched off. Right-click to switch it on or off. During the day it can remain armed; at night it needs reserves to prevent new enemy spawns.

Consumption Steam Ether energy
Night activation 250 1
Upkeep 8 per second 1 per minute

Consumption draws from the colony’s central reserve. The Ether energy unit paid at activation covers the first minute. Plan production and stock beyond construction costs: continuous Steam consumption can exceed the capacity of a chain that previously supplied industry comfortably. Check your reserves before leaving the system on throughout the night.

The effect prevents new night spawns while active. Enemies already present remain a defense problem. With insufficient fuel, protection stops and invasions can progress again; resupply and check the state shown in the panel.

What current victory does not require

You do not need to begin a three-night siege, assemble an uplink or maintain a pair of Ether Portals to trigger completion. Portals belong to L4 transport; the current victory condition checks active research and the presence of the Veil.

After the milestone, expand production, reshape your architecture or improve transport. Keep protecting the Core: completing the campaign does not make every subsequent night permanently safe.
